SubscribeCurrently Google doesn’t like link buying activity in order to improve page rank. Google will penalize any site which caught selling links or buying massive number of backlink for Page Rank. This policy suddenly changed the world of paid reviews, from clearly disclosing the nature of paid review to a subtle indication.
But webmaster all around the world have tons of creativity to seek a way passing the Google policy. Instead of buying a paid review which sometimes not giving a satisfying result, a wealthy and clever webmaster will organize an SEOcontest. Unlike a review post, the link from seocontest participant is faster entering the Google index and counted as quality link. Because each contestant promoting their page frequently to ensure their SERP position and hopefully to be the winner.
The current seocontest2008 has successfully increased the page rank of the organizer site because of thousands of quality backlinks pointing to their domain.
I found a new sites which using the same strategy to promote their site. A new web design company from Australia will launch it’s seo competition starting 1st May 2008 until July 2008. Unlike the ukwebmasterworld which already exist for almost 5 years, the busbywebsolutions.com is only started from early of this year.
I just couldn’t imagine how such a huge backlink number increase could be tolerated by Google for a fresh domain. This short of link buying activity could turn into negative impact such as penalizing the pagerank or SERP.

BTW, about the new competition, I think there will be more people to contributes, without thinking that actually they giving ton of free backlink to the company. Yes, in one side google should penalize this if the aim is just for generating traffic and backlinks, otherwise I don’t know. What about you Matt ?
